I don’t know why I haven’t made granola before now.  It’s so easy to do.

My family loves granola.  We eat it for breakfast with milk or as a snack with yogurt.  It seems I’m always buying it in the store.  When I looked at the ingredients in the package recently, I knew this would be easy to make.

The great thing about making your own granola is that you can mix in any ingredients you like.  Use this recipe as a base from which to start.  Granola is made with just a few simple ingredients and no additives or preservatives.  Totally healthy and totally yummy!

INGREDIENTS

3 cups rolled oats

1 1/2 cup slivered almonds

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ginger

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons canola oil

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup honey

1/2 cup raisons

DIRECTIONS

Combine the oats, almonds, cinnamon, ginger and salt in a large bowl.

In a small pot over a medium heat, combine the oil, vanilla, brown sugar and honey and stir until smooth.

Pour the oil/sugar mixture over the oat mixture in the large bowl and stir well to combine.

Pour the granola onto a large sheet pan lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the granola from the oven and stir well.  Place the granola back into the oven and bake for another 10 minutes, remove it from oven and stir.  Place the granola back into the oven for the last ten minutes to finish. Total cooking time should be about 30 minutes.

Remove the granola from the oven and stir in the raisons.  Allow to cool before storing.

**Note:  I didn’t want my granola to be too sweet.  If you like a sweeter granola, add a little extra honey when making yours.
