Wine Cork Wreath

I don’t post very many crafts on this blog, so if you see a craft project posted, it’s because it’s extra special. I find that I was much craftier when my kids were small. We enjoyed making crafts together. I can remember many years of making Halloween costumes, homemade Christmas decorations and various other art projects with my kids. We had fun getting messy and we created many happy memories.
I think my life has somehow gotten a tiny bit out of control and way too busy. With five children, a husband who frequently travels for business and my various writing projects, it unfortunately leaves me with little time to be crafty. I think that’s another reason why I enjoy cooking so much, my kids tend to join me in the kitchen and we create meals and treats together. So, perhaps my crafty inspirations have simply only taken a different path.
The other day, I was inspired by a jar of wine corks to make this very pretty wreath. It was the easiest project I’ve probably ever completed and I put it together in less than 30 minutes.
Let me explain a little about this jar of corks I have… okay I’ll admit it…ahem, several jars of wine corks. I hate to throw corks away and quite a few of them come from very special bottles of wine with a memory associated with them. I just keep adding corks to our jars and our collection keeps growing. I decided to use those corks to put together this holiday wreath.
To make this beautiful wine cork wreath, all you need is a foam wreath which I bought from Michaels for about $8.00, a glue gun, a few pieces of Christmas greenery and the corks. Simply glue the corks around the wreath, overlapping a few of the corks to cover the white foam then add the greenery where you’d like .
And there you have it! A very easy, extremely inexpensive wreath to hang in your home!

I was just tweeting with someone the other day about what to do with excess wine corks. This is a brilliant idea! Will have to share it.
