It’s All About Identity…
Author: JoanieSun, Apr 22, 2012
When my husband and I decided to first create a blog, I knew I wanted to share our love for good food. This includes writing about great recipes I found or to share recipes I came up with that got good reviews from my family.
EJ wanted to share his love for good, often very affordable, wines. Basically, wine has become his hobby over the years and he’s learned a lot. He does not believe he is a wine expert but more of an enthusiast. His basic belief is that “Life is too short to drink bad wine”.
Another area we knew we wanted to focus on is our family. We feel we have a lot to share about raising children. With the ages of our kids ranging from 22 years old down to 11, we’ve been through the elementary, middle school, high school, and college years and now looking beyond. The issues we’ve dealt with are many, as you’d imagine. There was a time we feared that my then 19 year old son was lost or had suffered a worse fate when his boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico. I was home and my husband was on a business trip overseas (bad things seem to happen when he travels). Then there is the tremendous peer pressure we’ve seen at our local high school, the middle school bullying and the exciting elementary school adventures. We’ve celebrated preschool firsts and awe at our ever-changing toddlers. In other words, we’ve been there and done much of that.
It’s all about identity…
I got married when I was 21 to my first and only great love. I went from my parents house to my married home. Eleven months later we had our first child, Michael. Less than 24 months later, Stephen was born. Elizabeth came along 22 months later. Patrick was next and five years later, Colleen was born. I went from being a daughter to a wife to a mother in the span of one year.
It’s all about identity…
Before I got married, I loved to write. I thought it was going to be my career, but fell in love instead. Best choice I ever made!! Believe me, I am so happy with the choices I’ve made, I wouldn’t trade them. Being a mom has been the most fulfilling “job” I could have ever had. I can’t imagine my life being any other way.
Now though, with my youngest being 11 years old, I’m trying to figure out what my “identity” is. I think I’ve found it. I think as mothers, we all sometimes have issues with finding our identity. With each phase of our children’s lives, our identity can change as well. We go from being preschool moms to moms of teens in a matter of a few short years.
It is my hope that you enjoy our posts about food , wine and traveling. It is also my hope that through this blog I can reach someone that needs to hear that they aren’t alone in this parenting adventure and through your words and comments to me I know I’ll be learning a lot as well.
It’s all about identity…
This blog has given me already such happiness. I’m sharing so many of the things I love and using the vehicle of writing which brings me joy.
I hope you enjoy it as well.
