We haven’t done many reviews on our blog, but when EJ and I come across a product that we feel is worth sharing, we can’t pass up the opportunity.  Such is the case of the Sodastream Penguin Sparkling Water Starter Kit.

Since my husband and I enjoy drinking sparkling water so much, I decided to buy a sparkling water maker for him as a Christmas present last year.

After much searching, I found the Sodastream Penguin.  It’s a sleek, simple device that’s easy to use.  It doesn’t require batteries or electricity and there’s no mess whatsoever.  It does in fact look a bit like a penguin and doesn’t take up much space on our kitchen counter.

The Sodastream Penguin comes with two dishwasher safe glass carafes with fizz preserving stoppers and one carbonator which according to the Sodastream website states that each carbonator adds fizz to about 45 carafes.  We have found that a carbonator lasts us about a month in actual use where it is used 1 to 2 times a day.  When we need to replace the carbonator, we bring them to a Williams-Sonoma or Sur la Table store in our area and they replace them for about $15.00.  Sodastream will exchange them by mail for $14.99 plus shipping.  It’s simply more convenient for us to exchange our carbonators locally.  We ended up purchasing a second carbonator bottle, which costs about $30.

The Sodastream Penguin is very easy to use.  Simply fill the carafe with regular tap water up to the fill line, insert the carafe into the chamber, latch it closed and press the “beak” several times.  When you hear a “chirping” sound, you know your carbonated water is ready.  We like a little more fizz in our water so we let ours chirp for 3 or 4 times. Then, simply unlatch the device and remove the glass carafe.

We’ve had the Sodastream Penguin in our home for about six months.  We love it and it’s still working great even with it being used several times a day.

There are soda mix flavors that you can add to your carafe to make a flavored soda.  My husband and I aren’t big soda drinkers, however our daughter bought a diet soda flavor to add and it tastes quite good.

The Sodastream Penguin has been great for us.  It’s a little pricey, selling for around $200 but we feel it’s saving us money since we no longer buy bottles of sparkling water from the store and it’s environmentally friendly as well.  You can learn more about the Sodastream Penguin Sparkling Water Maker at the Sodastream website and it is available for purchase through Amazon.

The Sodastream Company has not paid us or compensated us for our review of this product.  We just wanted to pass along a review of a product we use and enjoy.
